“A New Deal for A Great Society: Elinor Williams Hooker Tea Talks 2024”

The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire (BHTNH) proudly announces the Elinor Williams Hooker Tea Talks 2024, a series of insightful and participatory panel-led discussions. This year’s theme, “A New Deal for A Great Society,” aims to delve into the historical and current social and civic environment of New Hampshire, exploring the impact of federal programs from the New Deal and Great Society eras.

Scheduled on Sundays from February 4 -25, March 10 and April 21, both virtually and in-person, the series will feature a diverse range of topics including economic opportunities, housing disparities, healthcare access, criminal justice, and public education. These discussions are designed to foster a deeper understanding of New Hampshire’s past and its influence on envisioning a more equitable future.

The Elinor Williams Hooker Tea Talks 2024 will be graced by an array of esteemed panelists, including Gene Martin from the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute and Michelle Holt Shannon of New Hampshire Listens. Elissa Margolin, leading Housing Action NH, and Anthony Poore, a veteran in community development, will also share their insights. The health-focused discussions will benefit from the expertise of Dr. Marie-Elizabeth Ramas, a family physician, and Nicole Sublette, a dedicated psychotherapist. Additionally, Rochelle Jones from the Portsmouth Police Department and Julian Jefferson, a seasoned criminal law attorney, will contribute valuable perspectives on law enforcement and justice. These panelists bring a rich tapestry of experience and knowledge, promising a series of enlightening and thought-provoking discussions.

The series is made possible through the support of various sponsors, including a grant from New Hampshire Humanities, demonstrating a community-wide commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding.
