Jerrianne Boggis was recently interviewed in the NHPBS program “Hometown” regarding Harriet Wilson, who was the first African American woman in the U.S. to publish a novel.
Jerrianne Boggis, a resident of Milford, NH, felt a special connection to the Harriet Wilson story, when in 2002 she discovered that Harriet Wilson had also lived in Milford.
A little more than 12 minutes in to the video of the Hometown show featuring Milford, Jerrianne is introduced by Rebecca Rule, and speaks about Harriet Wilson and Our Nig; or Sketches From the Life of A Free Black, the novel Wilson published in 1859, and describes the creation of the memorial and installment of the statue of Harriet Wilson in Milford, NH.
