CALL FOR PAPERS
14th Annual Black New England Conference
BLACK WOMEN ROCK:
Leading the Charge for Social and Political Change
September 25-26, 2020
Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester NH
#BNEC2020
As artists and activists, politicians and pundits, Black women continue to stand on the front line and lead the charge for social and political change. From Sojourner Truth calling for the abolition of slavery and for women’s rights, to Tarana Burke coining “Me Too” in 2006, Black women have played a vital role in the political and social (re)formation of the United States, even as their leadership and activism has often been eclipsed and erased.
The 2020 Black New England Conference will celebrate, examine, and make visible Black women’s leadership and activism in fights for political and social change. We will consider Black women’s leadership and activism in a variety of social and political arenas—the classroom, the courtroom, business and economics, technology, the environment, the arts, religion, government, and others.
The Black New England Conference is accepting abstracts for 10- to 15-minute presentations that examine any number of questions related to Black women as purveyors of change, including:
• Black Feminist Leadership and Activism
• The Economic Context of Black Women’s Activism
• Black Women’s Activism through the Arts
• Black Women and Environmental Activism
• Black Women and Politics
• Black Women Leading us Toward the Sacred
• The Next Generation of Black Women Leader
Abstracts on any aspect of Black women’s leadership and activism will be considered. Presentations should deepen an understanding and appreciation for Black women’s leadership and promote critical engagement. This conference is for anyone who wants to explore how Black women have fought to shape and reshape America.
