Our Statement on the Atlanta Murders

On March 16^th, eight people, six of whom were women of Asian descent, were murdered in the Atlanta area. We at the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire recognize the particular impact these murders have on members of the Asian American community. Asian Americans have increasingly been targets of racial violence since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, have been seen as perpetual foreigners, and have had their contributions to the United States of America ignored. We grieve with the family and friends of those who died, and we stand in solidarity with members of the Asian American community. We denounce white supremacy and the violence it generates. The histories of Asian Americans, African Americans, Indigenous peoples, and other racial and ethnic minorities have not been told and understood as they should. Our histories are intertwined. We remain committed to telling histories that change the way our country understands human dignity when it is free of historical stereotypes, and to building more inclusive communities today.
