The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire invites you to join artist L’Merchie Frazier for a special talk and workshop, Saturday, August 7, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, to learn the art of collage and to make your own story scroll. The workshop will be at the Black Heritage Trail of NH – 222 Court Street, Portsmouth, NH.
L’Merchie Frazier is a Boston-based visual artist, performing artist, educator, consultant, activist, and philanthropist. She is currently the Director of Education at the Museum of African American History in Boston. Through her visual artwork, she creates evocative fiber and metal sculptures, innovative mixed media installations, stunning hand-crafted beaded jewelry, and a powerful quilt-series, “The Quilted Chronicles.” Her work has been exhibited at numerous institutions including the University of Vermont, the American Museum of Art and Design, New York, and the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC.
Frazier’s work, including a story scroll, is currently on display at the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire gallery at 222 Court Street, Portsmouth, NH. The exhibit can be viewed during open hours, 7 days a week, 10am-4pm, through the summer.
To register for this special event, click here. The cost of the workshop is $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children under the age of 12. Children must be accompanied by an adult and should be able to use scissors. Participation is limited to 10 people.
To create your own personal scroll, please come prepared with your hopeful thoughts, five of your favorite words, and a favorite quote as well as other suggested items: newspaper or magazine clippings, fabric or cloth from clothing to be discarded, tissue paper, gift paper, or handmade art paper, ribbons, buttons, and small objects or trinkets. BHTNH will supply scissors, tape, and glue.
