The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire (BHTNH) is proud to welcome three distinguished new members to its Board of Directors in 2025. Their expertise and leadership will enhance our mission of raising awareness of pivotal moments in New Hampshire’s African American history and cultivating more inclusive and just communities throughout the state.

Karen Prior (Exeter, NH) joins the board with nearly 25 years of experience in academic publishing and nonprofit leadership. As Founder & Principal of Starfish Collaborative, LLC, Karen has dedicated her career to uniting diverse groups around a shared mission. She has held key roles in organizations such as HAVEN, the Southern District YMCA, and The New Hampshire Women’s Foundation, where she championed community development and nonprofit excellence. Her strategic insight and commitment to social impact will be invaluable to BHTNH.

Gene Martin, a Ph.D. candidate in Leadership & Policy at the University of New Hampshire, brings deep expertise in public policy, government relations, and nonprofit leadership. As the Executive Director of the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute, Gene works to advance equitable economic policies. His past leadership roles at Plymouth State University and service on BHTNH’s finance committee underscore his dedication to fiscal stewardship and community engagement. His experience will strengthen our organization’s ability to grow and thrive.

Pete Mosseau, a distinguished attorney and magna cum laude graduate of Holy Cross, brings a lifelong dedication to justice and historical preservation. His legal career began under the mentorship of future Supreme Court Justice David Souter at the NH Attorney General’s Office, and he has since built a reputation as a leader in trial law and legal education. A member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Pete is also a passionate advocate for mentoring young lawyers and supporting nonprofit initiatives across the state. His legal acumen and passion for history will be tremendous assets to our board.

“We are thrilled to welcome Karen, Gene, and Pete to our Board,” said Shari Robinson, President of the Board. “Each of them brings a unique perspective and invaluable expertise that will enhance our efforts to educate, engage, and inspire communities throughout New Hampshire. Their leadership will help us expand the reach and impact of the Black Heritage Trail.”

The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire remains committed to preserving and sharing the rich history of African Americans in the region. With the addition of these accomplished leaders, the organization is well-positioned to deepen its impact and continue its vital work.
