From Ship to Portsmouth Harbour Black Heritage Trail of NH Shifts 2025 Juneteenth Events

The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire (BHTNH) regrets to announce that the June 2025 visit of Amistad, a replica of the historic 19th-century schooner, has been rescheduled to 2026 due to major repairs that will prevent the vessel from sailing this summer.

While the postponement is disappointing, BHTNH remains committed to celebrating Juneteenth, 2025, with an exciting lineup of events honoring African American history, resilience, and culture. We look forward to hosting the ship in 2026, as the Amistad represents a powerful story of resistance. It was the site of the 1839 rebellion by captive Africans who seized control of the vessel and later won their freedom in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case.

• Juneteenth Dinner in collaboration with Black Lives Matter
• 10th Anniversary Celebration of the African Burying Ground Memorial – June 19, 2025, featuring The Akwaaba Ensemble with West African drumming and dance
