Nashua, NH – May 24, 2023 – The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire (BHTNH) is thrilled to announce that Manuel “Manny” Delcarmen, former Boston Red Sox player, will join Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess and BHTNH as a special guest at the Historic Marker Unveiling event in Nashua. Delcarmen will also be throwing out the first pitch for the Nashua Silver Knights game immediately following the unveiling ceremony. The event honors baseball trailblazers Don Newcombe and Roy Campanella for their historic role in integrating baseball.
Manny Delcarmen, a graduate of West Roxbury High School in Boston, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2000 draft. He became the first player from Boston’s inner-city to be selected by the Red Sox since 1966. Manny made his Major League Baseball debut with the Red Sox in July 2005 and went on to have a remarkable career spanning six seasons with the Boston Red Sox (2005-2010) and the Colorado Rockies (2010).
As a member of the 2007 World Series Championship Boston Red Sox team, Manny Delcarmen’s contributions on and off the field were significant. In recognition of his outstanding performance and dedication, he was honored as the BoSox Club’s Man of the Year in 2008. Manny’s involvement in community endeavors further exemplifies his commitment to making a positive impact beyond the game of baseball.
Delcarmen joins Karen Newcombe, widow of the legendary Don Newcombe, on the field for the unveiling paying tribute to the remarkable contributions of Don Newcombe and Roy Campanella to the world of baseball and their enduring impact on the sport’s history.
