The Trail is Growing - Come Join Our Team

The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire is seeking one to two dependable, community-minded Receptionists to join our team for the 2026 season.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, creating a welcoming environment, and supporting a mission-driven organization that preserves and shares African American history and culture in New Hampshire.

As the first point of contact for visitors, callers, volunteers, and community partners, the Receptionist plays an important role in shaping each person’s experience with BHTNH. We are looking for individuals who bring professionalism, warmth, reliability, and sound judgment, and who take pride in helping a public-facing space run smoothly.

This position is especially well suited for candidates with experience in libraries, museums, visitor services, education, hospitality, office administration, or community organizations, as well as retirees or professionals seeking meaningful part-time work.

About the Trail

The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire (BHTNH) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to telling the untold diverse histories of New Hampshire citizens. From the ports of Portsmouth, where enslaved Africans first arrived, to the northern border where freedom seekers found refuge, New Hampshire holds stories of resilience, courage, and community. These stories challenge us to look beyond the surface and uncover truths that have long been hidden.

At the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire, we believe understanding this history isn’t just about the past—it’s about creating a better future. By shining a light on these untold narratives, we inspire connection, foster healing, and build more inclusive communities.

The stories we haven’t heard shape the connections we’re missing. Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire brings those stories to life, helping us uncover a more complete and truthful history. From walking tours led by our expert Sankofa Scholars to interactive events and self-guided explorations, every experience inspires understanding, belonging, and action. Join us in creating bonds of understanding for stronger, more inclusive communities.
